In France, I’m already almost two months, but I can not complain about the huge number of friends, colleagues or girlfriends. Yes, I am in constant touch with friends from Poland, but it would be nice to find some kindred spirits on French soil.
So far, the closer I got to know only one French woman, let’s call her L. Nice, smiling girl, very confident, but also a little distant. I do not know whether this is due to the fact that I’m not from France, and Poland is associated to her as a wild country, somewhere in Eastern Europe, where there is permafrost, total darkness, and everyone drinks vodka. In addition, her boyfriend (call him P.) asked me recently whether in the Polish language we use the Cyrillic alphabet such as the Russians … I admit frankly that this question more amused methan surprised, after all Poland is not the center of the world and most people of other nations do not have the faintest idea about us, unfortunately …
Returning to the meeting with L. and P.: they are really nice people, but I do not know if I can make friends with them for longer. I forgot to write that we communicate in English because they do not have the faintest idea about the Polish, and my French is completely distaster… Surprisingly pretty good conversation going with them in the language of Shakespeare, which does not happen too often in the native French.
I am proud of the fact that I’m Polish and do not hide from anyone of my origin. However, I have quite a strong feeling that I will not easily make friends with the native inhabitants of France and have a friend in the form of the very self-confident French girls. Differences in approach to life, in education, manners are in many cases probably not to jump. But I’m not going to generalize and I want to get to know them better.
I hope that with time I will manage to establish close friendships and valuable relations with people in my new homeland :)
Have a nice evening!
